THE * 2004
* NOMINEES
AUSTIN
GREHAN JR.
"THE
GOD PART"
Austin's
numerous contributions as a performer in the Weirdo Awards programs
over the past dozen years have been enhanced by his participation in
many other theatrical productions of a slightly more professional
nature. His turn as God in "The Creation of the World and Other
Business" showed off his exceptional talents for characterization, and
stole the show. This is his third nomination; he won in 1992 for
"Austina Steps Out"
BETHRYN
GUSH
"THREE BELLES AND A BITCH"
The protean
stage and film career of Weirdo star Beth hit an odd mark this past
year with three delightfully delicious Southern belles in "The Parrot"
(The Theatre Tribe), "Steel Magnolias" (The Falcon Theatre) and "Sweet
Weirdo of Desire" (The Carport Theatre). But the one most Academy
members will cheer is her Hinky Award-winning bitch bit in "Windy City
Weirdos." Bern has been nominated for the Weirdo Award four times.
JOHN
McCABE
"DIVORCE—RAVIOLI STYLE"
John's
fourteenth nomination (two wins: "Cats" and "I Married a Raviolo") is
for the ironic twist of fate which landed him his own happy ending
following the good turn he did for love and friendship that landed him
his last cup. His real-life marriage to facilitate someone else's
relationship has paid off big time, and a third Weirdo Award would
indeed be a welcome addition to his load of Weirdos and Hinkys and a
Spazzy.
BILLY
MINOGUE
"THE HINKY VII FASHION PARADE"
One of the Weird
world's more (totally) recognizable performers. Billy has been
nominated twice previously for outlandish incidents, but this one was a
real show-stopper. His appearance at last season's Hinky Awards as a
model for all five of the best costume nominees was an absolute scream,
and he took home the prize himself for the birthday suit he sported in
"Survival of the Weirdest." A Weirdo win would work too.
The WINNER
ELLEN
RUNKLE
"A JOB THAT PAYS"
Previously known
to Academy members as the mother of Weirdo actress Hannah Runkle, Ellen
has come into her own this year with her first nomination. After
several stints as a tireless volunteer for worth causes in hospitals
and the local library, she decided to go for the money with a food
service job. Sadly, she was way too white for the rest of the staff,
and now collects the coin, and possibly the Weirdo Award, elsewhere.
